HOIMA: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has implored the people of Bunyoro to embrace all government programs to fight poverty and improve their household incomes.

The president made the remarks Sunday in a speech read by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

The premier represented the president as the chief guest during the 29th king’s coronation anniversary, commonly known as Empango, held on Saturday, June 11, 2023, at the kingdom palace.

President Museveni is currently under self-isolation at Nakasero State Lodge in Kampala after testing positive for COVID-19.

Museveni noted that by embracing government programs like parish development modal, Emyooga, Operation wealth creation among others, is optimistic people will improve on their household income because the NRM Government is ready to look for markets for farmers’ harvests both locally and international.

The premier Bunyoro kitara Kingdom Andrew Byakutaga has hailed President Museveni for the continued support towards Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom in terms of infrastructure development like roads, schools among others.

Byakutaga expressed his concern for the continued land conflicts in Bunyoro region resulting from the absentee landlords which can be solved by the government by assenting to the agreement restoring Bunyoro’s properties.

This year Empango was celebrated in a different way and cultural rituals have not been performed because Omukama Iguru is not in good health.

The omukama was represented by Omugo Margret Bakarunga Adyeeri and Okwiri Fred.

President Museveni supported the Empango ceremony with 50 million whereas Prime Minister Robinah Nabaja contributed ten million.
