MASINDI: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to launch the Bunyoro regional industrial hub this month.

The hub located in Kiryana village, Kimengo Sub County, Masindi district is part of the government’s efforts of fighting unemployment in the country through equipping the youth from the 10 districts in the   region with vocational skills including  carpentry, tailoring, weaving and knitting, baking, stone cutting, brick and shoe making.

It will also host common user machines and will be a training center for the people from the region in value addition, Cottage industries, 4 acre model concept among others.

Speaking during the first preparatory meeting for the hub’s launch at the facility Wednesday, Engineer Raymond Kamugisa who represented the state house controller revealed that the hub would be launched on a yet to be determined date in April.

Kamugisa challenged the leaders from the region to work towards changing the mindset of their people in order to benefit from the facility through improving their lives.

He explained that the hub will benefit the youth aged 18 to 35 and it will be admitting 300 learners each intake.


Julius Muhairwe, from the ministry of local government advised the leaders in Bunyoro region to transform their districts by involving the private sector in whatever they do since the county in running a private -sector led economy.

Speaking during the same meeting, Masindi district chairperson Cosmas Byaruhanga challenged the youth in the region to embrace the facility so that they can acquire  free of charge skills that will improve their lives.

Amlan Tumusiime, the Resident District Commissioner Kikuube hailed president Museveni for the initiative saying the facility will equip the youth with the skills they need to start businesses that will enable them live better lives and develop the country.

On her part, Kabakumba Masiko chairperson of the ruling NRM party in Masindi district advised the people of Bunyoro especially the farmers to utilize the industrial hub by supplying food stuff in order to develop themselves.
