GULU: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has distributed 264.9 million shillings to 883 village savings and loan associations (VSLAs) in Gulu City.
The seed capital from the office of the president shall benefit 1,000 VSLAs in Gulu City, with each group entitled to 300,000 shillings.
During the launch of the distribution exercise recently by the NRM party secretary, Richard Toodwong, it was revealed that 306 million shillings will be dished out to the benefiting VSLAs.
On Sunday, June 4, 2023, NRM party leaders in Gulu City disbursed 30.9 million shillings to 103 VSLAs in Bardege Ward in Bardege-Layibi Division.
Felix Olanya, the Chairperson of Tute Matek VSLA, revealed that the money would boost their livelihood since the 25 group members would be borrowing to support their businesses.
Agnes Akello, the female councilor for Bardege Ward in Bardege-Layibi Division who also doubles as the secretary for finance, planning, and marketing for Bardege-Layibi Division, says the beneficiaries will be trained on leadership skills, record keeping, and financial literacy after they are all given the seed capital.
Meanwhile, Jane Frances Amongin Okili, the Gulu Resident City Commissioner, warned the beneficiaries to refrain from using the money for unplanned purposes.
According to her, the initiative is part of the president’s drive for social and economic transformation among the country’s citizens.
