Ntungamo: Officials in Ntungamo district are on the spot for diverting funds worth 90 million shillings meant for the water drilling process.
The funds were meant to work on Nyarwanya production wells that use solar from Kanyehunde to Nyarwanya in Rubare Sub County and Kizinga in Ngoma Sub County. The money in question was released last financial year.
According to Councilor Rubare Sub County John Kabeho, during the council seating when he tried to consult the executives, it was revealed that the process halted over inadequate funds.
He noted that during the financial year 2022-2023, they received little money for the two projects, totaling only 43 million shillings, of which 25 million shillings were used at first to find out the water source in those two areas.
‘’During the financial year 2022-2023, we received little money for the two projects of only 43 million shillings, of which 25 million shillings were used at first to find out the water source in those two areas,’’ he added.
Aidha Kebirungi, the chairperson of the water and works committee for Nyamunuka and Bwongyera Sub-Counties, narrated that the money received was not enough to drill water due to some technicalities at Rubare Lacks water source.
‘’The money we received was not enough to drill water due to some technicalities and Rubare Lacks water source,’’ she said, stressing that the executive was almost transferring money to the Treasury.
Kebirungi, however, disclosed that the district executive and chairman identified where there was a need for water in Ruhama Sub County, and the money was used to set up two tanks of water, one at Ruhama Secondary School and one at Rwikiniro Sub County.
She said that the said amount was for the fourth quarter, which is not common, and that’s why they diverted the money as the financial year was almost ending in June, admitting that they diverted the funds without the approval of the council.
