GULU: Nwoya district has failed to send its athletes for the Uganda Secondary School Sports Association (USSSA) championship regional meet for Acholi zone, which commenced on Thursday at 11.30 a.m at Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu City with 10,000-meter race boy’s categories.

The participating districts are Kitgum, Pader, Agago, Lamwo, Amuru, Omoro, and Gulu District.

The Vice Chairperson of the Uganda Secondary School Sports Association Acholi region, Ojuku Richard Brian, told this publication that, as organizers of this competition, they haven’t gotten any information from the Nwoya district sports department.

Yesterday’s competition was the first edition of the secondary school athletics championship at the regional level.

This was in a bid to boost participation and national levels following a drastic decline by the majority of the districts, which were reportedly failing to send in their participants to the national competition citing the financial crisis.

The national competition is scheduled for 9th to 19th  July this year and will be hosted Kabale District in Western Uganda.
