MASINDI: Gerald Aseera the former news anchor at Kings FM 93.6 Masindi was shot dead in cold on Wednesday 1st June 2022.

Later police released a statement indicating that Aseera was shot in the chest by Ekou Simon 38, security guard working with Blue Whale Security Company Ltd and attached to Coca Cola depot Masindi branch, the incident happened at around 00:30hours.

According to a police statement, Ekou shot Aseera suspecting him to be a thief. Aseera was later dumped at Masindi district general hospital where he passed on in the wee hours, according to Rashida Tooti, an eyewitness who spoke to this publication.

However, Mr. Isingoma Peter the father of Aseera Gerald rejected the police statement and said that his son wasn’t a thief, therefore requested police to investigate into the murder of his son.

‘’For the 35 years I have been with my son, I have never seen or heard of him stealing, therefore I can’t agree with the police statement, police should investigate into the murder of my son,’’ he bitterly said.

Aseera was laid to rest on 3rd June 2022 at his ancestral home in Pakanyi Village Pakanyi Sub County Buruli County in Masindi district.

While at the send-off of Aseera, journalists under their umbrella Greater-Masindi Media Practitioners Association {GMEPA} vowed to investigate into the murder of colleague.

On 13th June 2022, Simon Okou 38, suspected to have shot Aseera dead appeared before the Masindi Grade One Magistrate Court presided over by grade one magistrate Selsa Biwaga and was charged with murder.

Ekou was also remanded to Masindi Government Prisons for forty days for allegedly shooting and killing Gerald Aseera, the former news anchor at Kings FM 93.6 Masindi.

The suspect is expected to appear in court on 22nd of July 2022.

While addressing journalists after the court session, Jessica Kabakuru, the mother of late Aseera Gerald, asked court to speed up the trial of the suspect who killed his son for justice.
