POLICE BREAKS SILENCE ON GRENADE EXPLOSION IN KOBOKO DISTRICT

KOBOKO: The territorial police of Koboko is investigating an incident of suspected grenade explosion in which one was killed and six injured on Sunday at around 3pm in the afternoon.

According to Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Region Police Spokesperson, the suspected explosion occurred at a stream in Lipa cell, Mengo ward, South Division, Koboko Municipality.

‘’It’s alleged that the seven victims of the explosion went to bathe at the stream, and one of them recovered a rusted metallic item in the water. When one of them called Lucky Yasir hit it on the stone to remove the rust, it started producing sound and smoke,’’ she explained.

Angucia asserts that when they told the one who was holding it to throw it away, he instead dropped it down on the stone on which they were bathing. The item exploded immediately, killing one and injuring six.

The police mouthpiece has identified the deceased as Jamal Alege Yasin, male juvenile aged 14 years. Meanwhile the injured were Sharif Rogota of 7 years, Mudashir Raisi aged 10 years, Habibu Roberto aged 10 years, Yusuf Lega Yasin aged 10 years, Hope Yasir and Lucky Yasir all male juveniles and pupils of Nile Junior Primary School in Lipa cell, Mengo ward, South Division, Koboko Municipality.

She adds that upon receiving this information, police acted quickly by opening General inquiries file GEF 011/2022 and rushed to the scene of the incident at the stream and documented it.

‘’They recovered exhibits of the fragments and blood samples and preserved them to be forwarded for further analysis,’’ she said.

The victims were rushed to Koboko health centre 4 for treatment and conveyed the dead body to the hospital mortuary for postmortem.
