MARACHA: Following the arrest of four Maracha district officials on Thursday last week and two more on Saturday, Christopher Okumu the former Chief Administrative Officer {CAO} has been put on the list of wanted officials.

The six officials were arrested on allegations of abuse of office and mismanagement of government funds.

According to SP Josephine Angucia, the West Nile region police spokesperson, the suspects were handed over to the Anti-Corruption Unit Kampala on Friday 17th June 2022.

‘’They were transferred with a case file to their unit in Kampala for further management,’’ she asserted.

The police spokesperson identified the suspects as Ms Osoa Flavia the District Education Officer {CAO}, Mr Abiribale Paul Tatia the District Internal Auditor, Mr Ezati Timothy Maluma the District Senior Civil Engineer, Ms Avako Nolah the District Environment Officer, Candia Steven (CFO) and Oneti William (the clerk).

‘’It was alleged by whistle blowers that the six suspects and others still at large abused their offices and mismanaged 1.9 billion Ugandan shillings which was meant to construct classroom blocks and houses for teachers at Kololo Seed Secondary School in Maracha District,’’ Angucia explained.

She also explains that police opened a case file under GEF 35/2022 to investigate complaints made by Whistle blowers.

‘’The scene was visited to confirm the unfinished projects and shoddy work done, the suspects were summoned for statements and later detained pending investigations,’’ Angucia added.

Police are yet to summon or arrest others who are still at large for statements into the allegation.

The police mouthpiece urges the public to continue reporting corrupt tendencies and practices in public institutions to police for investigations so as to minimize such practices in such institutions of the country.
