POLICE INVESTIGATES KILLING OF SUSPECTED THIEF BY MOB IN KIRYANDONGO

KIRYANDONGO: Police in Kiryandongo district is investigating circumstances under which a 26 year old man was killed by a mob in Kabuche village, Kigumba Sub County.

The deceased has been identified as David Azia, a resident of Kabuche village.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says over the weekend, officers at Kigumba police station received information that two suspected thieves including Azia were being beaten by a mob.

The other suspect is Isaac Opio, a resident of Titi village also in Kigumba Sub County was allegedly riding a Bajaj motorcycle registration number UEY 518B carrying suspected stolen goats with Azia.

Hakiza says that police rescued the suspects from the mob and rushed them to Kiryadongo hospital but Azia died on the way while Opio is nursing wounds at the same facility.

Hakiza warns the public against mob justice saying by killing the suspects they also kill evidence and information that would be used by the police in fighting crimes and prosecuting them.
