POLICE NETS 16 OVER CAR VANDALISM

KAMPALA: The Police in the Kampala Metropolitan area have arrested 16 suspects for being involved in incidents of car vandalism.

According to Claire Nabakka, the Uganda police deputy spokesperson, the suspects have been arrested following reports and incidents of car vandalism within the Kampala metropolitan area.

She adds that the Police at Kampala central Police station carried out an operation along Jinja road traffic lights with the help of CCTV cameras and arrested 16 suspects.

Nabakka added that the suspects have been processed for court.

According to the annual police crime report, a total of 883 cases of theft of motor vehicles were reported in 2020 compared to 1,147 cases in 2019.

“Out of the 883 motor vehicles reported stolen, 291 were recovered while 592 were not recovered by the end of the year,” the report stated in part.

It noted that aggravated robbery of motor vehicles (using weapons especially guns) saw a total of 30 cases registered during the year 2020 compared to 85 cases reported in 2019.
