LIRA: Police of Ojwina police station in Lira city west division is holding a special police constable of Starch factory outpost identified as Raymond Esanyu over the murder of Boniface Ogem 29, a resident of Cuk Ibange cell, Lira City West division.
The North Kyoga Region police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema said on 09/04/2022 three police officers from starch factory police out post who were on night patrol at around 11pm found about 15 male youth smoking marijuana and chewing Khart near an incomplete building and tried to arrest them.
However, one of the youth identified as Boniface Ogem reportedly begun fighting SPC Raymond Esanyu who fired a bullet which killed the former instantly.
The police officers reported the incident to the LC1 chairman of Cuk ibange cell who consequently reported the same to Ojwina central police station.
Police visited the crime scene and recorded statements and the body of the deceased was taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem.
SPC Esanyu is currently being detained at Ojwina Central Police Station as investigation into the matter continues.
Odur James the LC1 chairman of Cuk ibange cell said he heard gun shots on the fateful day but after about 30 minutes, a police officer came to his home with a colleague whom he said had shot dead one person.
Odur said he reported the matter to police for investigation.
Odur warned parents to keep their children safe at home during this holiday to avoid re-occurrence of such an incident.
