KIBAALE: Okello Manthon, the officer in Charge of Kitutu Police Post in Karama Sub County, Kibaale district is in trouble for shooting dead a man in a scuffle during an arrest of defilement suspect.
Okello is reported to have shot dead Vincent Kirabo 31, a resident of Hamugamba village in Karama Sub County Tuesday morning and also injured William Igabura 33, Pascal Tumusiime 26 and John Kirama of the same village and have been rushed to Emesco Health Center IV for treatment.
It’s alleged that incident happened at a round 6:00am when Okello Manthon went for an arrest of one Noah Mawagali on allegations of defiling and marrying a girl below the age of 18 but when the suspect noticed the police presence outside his house, he rung his brothers for rescue.
In the scuffle as Mawagali’s brothers tried to block the arrest without the presence of the village LC1 chairperson, O/C Okello allegedly shot Kirabo killing him instantly, living three others injured.
The gunfire attracted residents of Hamugamba who have angrily condemned the incident saying that justice must prevail and that O/C Okello must face the law.
Esther Tumusiime Adeke, the Kibaale District Police Commander who rushed to the scene has apologized on behalf of police for the act adding that investigations have commenced and that action will be taken against police officer.
Speaking to reporters while on their sickbeds at Emesco Health Center IV, Pascal Tumusiime one of the injured victims says he has been referred to Mubende regional referral hospital for operation having the bullet remained into his body.
”I have been transferred to Mubende regional referral hospital for operation since the bullet remained in my body,” he told our reporter earlier Monday.
By press time, the body of the deceased was at Kibaale H/C IV for postmortem as local leaders’ tasked police to produce a death report in time.
