POLICE OFFICER REMANDED OVER MURDER

LIRA: Lira magistrates’ court has remanded a police officer to Lira Central Government prison over the murder of a suspect.

Court presided by Lira chief magistrate Samson Loum Abiti heard that police constable Raymond Esanyu 41, on 9/04/2022 shot dead Boniface Agem 29, during arrest.

Esanyu who was attached to Starch factory police out post while on patrol at Cuk-iBangi cell, Lango central ward in Lira City West Division, at around 5am found a group of about 15 youth drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana in an incomplete building.

Esanyu with his two colleagues, who were on patrol in the process of arresting the youth, shot dead Agem.

Anthony Okello, Lira Resident Chief Attorney said the matter is still under investigation and asked for Esanyu to be remanded.
