ARUA: Police have recovered a gun from suspected armed robbers believed to have been terrorizing Arua City in the past few weeks.
This is according to the statement issued by SP Josephine Angucia, the regional police spokesperson for West Nile.
Angucia explained that the recovery of the gun registration number UG PSO56400000711094 happened today, May 17, 2023, at around 00:40 a.m after the police, led by the commander of Arua Central Division, Nasucha Jude, responded to a call on an aggravated robbery incident at Rock Filling Petrol Station in Ayivu East Division, Arua City.
Angucia added that when the police reached the scene, the suspects who put the guards at the petrol station on gunpoint had already escaped with the gun, prompting the police to comb the areas around Arua City upon receiving the description of the said robbers.
The police spokesperson added that during the hunt, a police patrol car intercepted a person who fit the earlier description by the night guards at the Arua regional referral hospital.
She added that during the search, the suspect escaped after being shot at, abandoning the gun with one round of ammunition, which was later taken to Arua Central police station as exhibits.
The police officer revealed that the police are still tracing the suspect, who was on the run.
Meanwhile, the other suspect, who was arrested on the night of May 15, 2023, is still detained at Arua CPS.
