HOIMA: The police in Hoima have recovered a gun belonging to the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) in a foiled robbery.

The gun registration number UPDF 767183 with 30 rounds of ammunition was recovered on Saturday evening at around 7:30 p.m. when an unknown, unidentified suspected robber raided a mobile money agent in Hoima city and attempted to rob her of money.

It is believed that the suspected robber, disguised as a client, approached the mobile money agent, but before they could execute any transaction, the mobile money agent became suspicious and sounded an alarm that attracted other residents.

As the residents responded to the alarm, the robber reportedly took off, abandoning a bag he had in his possession.

When residents checked the abandoned bag, they recovered a gun wrapped in a piece of cloth.

They reportedly alerted the police, who immediately rushed and picked up the gun.

The Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, Julius Hakiza, says the hunt for the suspected robber is on, adding that the gun has already been exhibited.

Hakiza has lauded the residents for being vigilant, tasking them to always be alert.

This is not the first time a gun has been recovered in the region.

In December 2022, police in the Albertine region recovered a gun that had been stolen from a private security guard in Hoima city.

The rifle registration number UG Pol 303-65933107928 was recovered with two rounds of ammunition on Tuesday, hidden in a culvert in Bulindi village, Kyambigambire sub-county, Hoima district.
