POLICE SPEAKS OUT ON SOROTI SCHOOL FIRE OUTBREAK

SOROTI: The Uganda Police Force, Fire and Rescue Services attached to East Kyoga regional police command respondent are investigating the cause of the fire outbreak at Unity Premier Primary School, in Obuku cell, Amen ward, and Western division within Soroti City which occurred today {Thursday}.

According to ASP Ageca Oscar Greggory, the East Kyoga police spokesperson the incident happened at around 08:30am.

He explains that the first units under leadership of in-charge fire brigade services AIP Apiue Denis arrived on the scene within a few minutes of the call from the head teacher of Unity Premier Primary School Mr. James Olinga.

‘’We found a large amount of fire burning throughout the school dormitory housing boys of Primary four and five where property such as books,  mattresses, and assorted personal items in suitcases of the pupils of Primary four and primary five were completely destroyed,’’ he explained.

He also added that a class room belonging to Primary Seven blue was also burnt which had items including the school music system, key board, and other items yet to be established.

“All pupils were reportedly out of the dormitory and class room that was burnt, therefore no life was lost but unfortunately property damage initially estimated to be worth over millions of  shillings was lost to the vagaries of the fire  where all the property housed in the building at the beginning of the fire could not be rescued,” Ageca said.

Ageca also urged the parents to be calm as police investigate the matter.
