ALBETONG: Police in Albetong district are investigating the death of a 30 year old pregnant woman after allegedly stealing maize in Apado village, Apala Sub-County.

The deceased is Grace Akullo, a resident of the same address.

It is alleged that Akullo stole maize belonging to her biological brother Innocent Odung two weeks ago.

She was later arraigned before the relatives who were also accusing her of continuously producing children with different men.

It is alleged that during the meeting Odung severely assaulted Okullo as a punishment for her act before she disappeared from the home and later her decomposing body was discovered in the nearby bush on 19th July 2022.

This forced Odung to flee the area and the authorities have mounted a hunt for him.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga region Police spokesperson says the matter was reported to Apala Police Station and immediately a team of detectives visited the crime scene.

Okema adds that a post-mortem was conducted from the scene and the body was later handed over to the relatives for burial as investigations commenced into the matter.

The police officer condemned the act of taking their law into their hands by administering corporal punishments to the suspects.

“We would like to appeal to members of the public to desist from the act of clans administering corporal punishment which is against the law of Uganda and we further request anybody who has any information that can support investigation to secretly share it to the nearest police for action”, Okema appealed.
