Bukedea: A total of 38 persons with disabilities in Malera Sub County in Bukedea district have received cattle under national special grant.
The beneficiaries were randomly picked in groups of Kokwech, Kajeleik and Muyoro groups.
Irine Akiiso, the female district councilor who flagged off the handover on Thursday at Malera sub county Headquarters.
She says each group received five million under national special grant and the procured cattle cost fifteen million shillings.
“We have bought 19 cattle which cost fifteen million two people to get a cow per each group”, said Akiiso.
Akiiso also added that the district will continue to support the persons with disabilities until they cover the entire district.
Francis Osire, one of the beneficiaries who represented Kokwech group, said it’s the first time for his group to receive such support from the government.
“I want to thank the government of Uganda for showing us love, most of the persons with disabilities have been abandoned in the community”, said Osire.
However, Joseph Amailem, the sub county chairperson Malera challenged the beneficiaries to honor their responsibility to take care of the cattle for their personal benefit.
