RAIN DESTROYS OVER 30 HOUSES IN HOIMA

HOIMA: Over 30 houses in Buseruka sub county, Hoima district have been destroyed following heavy rains that ravaged the area.

The heavy downpour with strong wind on Sunday started at around 10pm and lasted for over three hours, destroying a lot of property at Rwentale landing site in Tonya parish.

Rogers Gizaza, a member of the Rwentale The Way Church says the heavy downpour submerged the church when about 40 people were attending night prayers.

‘’They were rescued by area residents who heard them screaming for help,’’ he said.

Scovia Asasiza, who was found in the church said they survived by God’s mercy since most of them were asleep in the church as it was raining.

Luka Baguma, also a resident, says the area is likely to face outbreak of diseases like dysentery and cholera since most of the toilets in the area were washed away by the floods.

‘’My house was also washed away by the floods that resulted from the heavy downpour. I’m currently seeking shelter at her neighbour’s house together with her four children,’’ Jenety Benin, another victim says.

Jenety Uroma has appealed to the government to come to their rescue to provide relief items saying they are suffering.

Karoli Janega, the Rwentale village LCI vice chairperson says the heavy downpour destroyed the office of the LCI chairperson that was also submerged.

‘’The heavy rains also submerged major roads leading to the landing site,’’ he disclosed.

Ali Tinkamanyire, the LC3 chairperson for Buseruka sub county says they have already notified the Hoima district disaster management committee about their problems as a result of the heavy rains.
