RAMPANT DRUG ABUSE WORRY ARUA LEADERS

Drug abuse is common in most parts of west nile especially among the youth.

ARUA: Leaders in the West Nile Arua City are worried over rampant drug abuse within the city.

The concern was raised recently during the international youth day celebrations.

According to Favourate Edeti, the youth chairperson Arua city, a number of youth have turned to be hooligans due to misuse of drugs such as ‘’mairungi’’, opium among others.

‘’A number of the youth in Arua city have turned to be hooligans due to misuse of drugs such as mairungi, opium among others,’’ he decried.

The youth leader asked the government to join hands with them so that they fight the vice in the area.

Simon Enetu, the youth councillor Arua City pointed unemployment as the major cause of drug abuse in Arua city and called upon the government to involve the youth in parish development programs as a way of minimizing the vice.

Enetu asked the leaders to always support the youth with developmental ideas and mind set change rather than waiting to use them as their weapon during the election period.

This year’s theme was intergenerational solidarity and on the national scene it was rebuilt as the role of young people in implementation of the parish development modal.

Drug abuse is common in most parts of west nile especially among the youth.

This has led to an increase of crimes in some areas within and outside city suburbs, strikes in schools among others.
