RDC WANTS GOV’T TO INTERVENE IN TEREGO, MADI-OKOLLO BORDER CLASH

TEREGO: The Resident District Commissioner for Terego district Modesto Ajilong has asked the ministry of local government to quickly solve the border dispute between Terego and Madi okollo which has turned into security threat.

In July 2020 four days after Terego had been granted a district status there was a fight for Ocea market between Terego and Madi okollo district which left a number of locals hospitalized and others arrested.

During the recent visit of Rafael Magyezi the minister of local government to Terego, Modesto Ajilong asked the minister to solve the matter which has become a security threat in the district.

Otim Humphrey Benson the CAO Madi okollo said the border disputes have led to failure of service delivery in the education and health services.

He said three primary schools of Ocea, Ariwa and Odobu which their details have just disappeared from the database.

He said some people in Rhino camp missed out on Covid mass vaccination because the funds that were supposed to be got from government were channeled to Madi okollo district.

Wilfred Saka, the LC5 chairman Terego district says some of the villages at the border with Madi okollo has two LC’s one put by Madi okollo and another by Terego which needs to be solved as soon as possible so that people who fled their homes can return to their homes.

He said the conflicts are being escalated by a few people who don’t want to listen.

‘Madi okollo is in conflict with all the neighbors what is their problem? They are in conflict with Yumbe at Ewanga, in conflict with Terego at Ocea, in conflict with Zombo at Atyak, in conflict with Arua at Ajia and Laura where are they going? They want to go to Congo?.

He said he had left it to the technical staffs but it seems they have failed.

He said all these districts were under Arua before decentralization and during decentralization process they created districts based on county basis.

He promised to camp at the border dispute area with elders until the issue is solved.
