GULU: The Gulu Deputy Resident District Commissioner,James Cosmas Okidi has disclosed that the practice by some unscrupulous people to reclaim ownership of the land  already given to relatives by  their ancestors is  brewing conflicts among residents in the district.
Okidi made the shocking revelation during a public accountability forum commonly known as Baraza held at Burcoro parish headquarters, Awach Sub County, Gulu district on Wednesday.

He disclosed that most of the cases of land disputes in the area emanate from reclaiming land by the descendants of the people who donated it to their relatives.

The RDC said this is done by the grand children of the deceased who alter their ancestors’ agreements with their relatives they donated the land to.

Okidi noted that the practice is being influenced by the greed for land for sale.

“This barbaric act must stop forthwith, and whoever is netted must be dealt with as per the law”, Okidi sounded the tough warning.

He revealed that more than 20 households have been affected by the practice in a single parish of Burcoro.

He warned that he will not accept anyone to destabilise the peace of the people in Gulu by reclaiming the land that was donated to them by their ancestors for personal gains, threatening to arrest and prosecutes all the culprits.
