BUKEDEA: The speaker of parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon. Annet Among Anita who doubles as a woman Member of Parliament for Bukedea district has handed over a tune of ten million shillings towards the construction of Anita block at Kolir comprehensive secondary school in Bukedea district.

Anita block was pledged a year back during her campaigns as a woman member of parliament before assuming the parliament speaker seat.

The block consists of four classrooms and two offices for the head teacher and staff members.

In an interview with the community members, the school began under the community initiative whereby community members fundraised funds and later coded by the government.

Jackson Osire, the chairperson Board of governors who officiated the handover of ten million shillings on Friday held at the school premises said the school has a total population of 788 students with both ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level, studying under one block.

“The school has been operating in a challenging way, we have shortage of classroom blocks,” Mr. Osire said.

Mr. Moses Opwata, the school head teacher said, due to shortage of the classrooms, during examination period the lower classes of S1, S2 and S3 were dispersed to home in order to create space for the candidate classes.

“We do not have an examination block so we always send off some classes home in order to create space for the candidate classes,” Opwata said.

He added that with the support of Anita block, the school’s ongoing activities would be easier now since some of the classes would be accommodated in the newly constructed block.

“Much as the government is putting emphasis on science subjects, I want to report that Kolir comprehensive secondary school lacks a science laboratory, I request through the office of Speaker for more support on science laboratory,” Opwata requested.

Siporah Akol, the political assistant for the speaker in Bukedea district who delivered the pledge said matters of education are the areas of focus for the speaker.

She said Anita block is aimed to benefit the entire community not as an individual. She therefore called upon the BOG, PAT and SMC members to foresee the project and to ensure that the money performs its targeted purpose.

“This project will not end here and I want all community members to focus and foresee and own this project”, said Ms. Akol.
