SUSPECT SHOT FOR RESISTING ARREST

KAGADI: A 29-year-old man has survived death narrowly after a police officer attached to Muhorro Police Station shot him several times after he reportedly resisted arrest.

The incident happened on Tuesday in Karuswiga cell in Muhoro town council Kagadi district.

It is said that the victim, identified as Isah Katushabe, a resident of Karuswiga cell in Muhorro town council, allegedly threatened to cut with a panga police officer who attempted to arrest him.

During the scuffle, a police officer identified as SSP John Kakande shot him with live bullets on the left leg and both arms to disable him.

The victim, Katusabe, was rushed to the doctor’s medical clinic in Muhoro Town Council.

Katusabe was reported to the police a few weeks ago by his wife, Rose Karungi, over domestic violence.

Residents have condemned the excessive force used by the police to handle the suspect.

Meanwhile, Muhoro town council Mayor Godfrey Nangoza has told this publication that the victim’s wife, Rose Karungi, visited his office before and advised the couple to reconcile.

The Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, Julius Hakiza, confirmed the incident and asked residents to always report to police in case they get misunderstandings and avoid attacking security officers. 

Hakiza said the victim, after his recovery, will be charged with attempted murder.
