SUSPECTED CASSAVA THIEF KILLED, BODY SET ABLAZE

HOIMA: An angry mob has assaulted, killed, and set ablaze a suspected notorious thief in Hoima District.

The gruesome incident happened on Thursday in Kyabisagazi 1, a village in Kyabisagazi Parish, Kigorobya Sub County, in Kigorobya County.

The deceased only identified as Ronald, a 17-year-old, resident of Kikabagya village, Kyeramya Parish, Kiganja Sub County, was found red-handed stealing dry cassava from the kitchen of one of the residents of Kyabisagazi 1 village.

This prompted the owner of the house to raise an alarm, and as the suspect was trying to escape, he was intercepted by other locals who assaulted, killed, and set ablaze on the roadside using dry grass.

Mr. Richard Kagaba, the area chairperson, confirmed the incident, saying the same suspect narrowly survived being apprehended by the angry residents over theft.

He asserted that police officers attached to Kigorobya Police Station together with the health team rushed to the scene, recovered the body, and then later handed it to the relatives for burial arrangements.

On July 4 of last year, angry residents of Selure B village, Bugoigo parish, Butyaba sub-county, Buliisa district, killed and set ablaze a suspected thief only identified as Kabode, aged 25, for breaking into the video hall of one Fred Kiiza.

On July 17 of last year, an angry mob lynched a suspected notorious motorcycle thief in Masindi. The deceased, identified as Godfrey Odongo, 32, a resident of Majengo cell in Kabango town council, was intercepted by boda boda riders with a stolen motorcycle.

He was assaulted to death before police arrived at the scene.
