By Moses Alinda

ARUA: Suspected human trafficker was Wednesday arrested from Hotel Arua in Arua city.

The arrest of Sabiri Siraji followed a tip off by a concerned citizen.

The suspect had packed over 50 children starving in a hotel continental in the former river Oli division.

The children who are between 5 to 10 years were ferried from various districts of West Nile Sub Region.

The security led by Arua Resident City Commissioner Alice Akello together with help of police officers led the operation which led to the arrest of Siraji Sabiri.

Siraji claimed that he was taking children to Al-Rahman Islamic primary and secondary school in Bombo.

The resident city commissioner Alice Akello has cautioned parents to stop giving out their children to strangers and urged them to make use of the schools where they can monitor their children.

” I have talked to parents on several occasions to protect their children but parents have not listened,” she said.

Akello advised the parents to keep their children home in case they don’t have money for school fees or take them to government schools to avoid issues with their children being recruited for wrong activities in the country.

Muzaidi Khemisi, the mayor of Arua central division, asked the security to thoroughly investigate and interrogate the suspect since there were recent links of children being recruited in the ADF rebels.

He said the same Sabiri was arrested several times last year with children in Maracha district as he was ferrying them from Yumbe.

But on how he was released leaves questions to the police who had him in their custody.

The mayor of Ayivu division Malon Avutia has asked all the complainants to go and lodge their complaints so that they can be helped.

He also wondered why such suspects are released every time they are arrested.

Ezama Ham Muzamil, the deputy RDC who is the victim of the same con man says he is ready to follow up on the case.

He said the suspect sold to them land which was not in existence and was arrested but later released by court on bond which he has never obeyed till to date

He cautioned the community to be vigilant on such people so that the children can be saved from being recruited in wrong activities.

Recently during an operation in Ntoroko district, some of the children who were interrogated said they had been ferried from Arua which brings suspicion of Siraji to be an agent.
