SUSPECTED ROBBER BEATEN TO COMA IN ARUA

ARUA: Police in Arua City rescued a suspected robber who attempted to rob revelers at Bamboo Bar along Enyau Road, Niva Cell, Awindiri Ward, Central Division, Arua City.

The West Nile Region Police Spokesperson, Josephine Angucia, explained that an unknown robber went with a gun to Bamboo Bar with intent to rob on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 4:00 a.m but was overpowered by the revelers in the bar.

She added that the robber shot two bullets in the air to scare the revelers and pave his way for escape, which did not succeed.

The police officer further added that the suspected robber was disarmed and beaten to a coma while trying to escape. ‘’He was disarmed and beaten to a coma while trying to escape,’’ she said.

Angucia told this publication that revelers informed police, who rushed to the scene, re-arrested the suspect, and recovered the gun in question with three rounds of ammunition and two cartridges of the discharged bullets.

‘’The suspect rescued was beaten unconscious by the angry revellers at the bar and was unable to talk,’’ she explained, adding that he was taken by police for treatment at Arua Hospital and later discharged and detained at Arua Central Business Division.

According to Angucia, the gun registration number UG PSO 56S4100025-13238 was stolen from a night security guard on July 21, 2023, at the Stabex petrol station located at Awindiri Ward, Ayivu East Division, Arua City.

A case file of attempted aggravated Robbery and illegal possession of a gun was opened, and inquiries continue under Arua CBD CRB 733/2023.
