TEACHER ON RUN AFTER ASSAULTING PUPIL TO DEATH

KISORO: Police in Kisoro district are hunting for a teacher who allegedly assaulted an 11-year-old pupil who later died.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, identified the deceased as Dan Gasore and the suspect as Pasco Hakizimana.
Maate told journalists on Tuesday that the incident was reported to police by the deceased’s parent, identified as Tumusiime Hillary, 35, a resident of Ruburankono village in Gasiza parish in Nyakabande Sub County.
According to Mr. Tumusiime Hillary, last week on Tuesday, the Mutorole Primary School teacher, Mr. Hakizimana, hit his son on the head for not understanding what was being taught.
‘’My son came back home crying and was taken to a nearby clinic for treatment until last Sunday at around 5:00 p.m., when the situation worsened. He was bleeding from the nose, and I rushed him to Kisoro hospital for further treatment, where he died a few minutes after arrival,’’ Mr. Tumusiime said in a police statement.
The regional police mouthpiece asserted that they were alerted; a case was registered at Kisoro Police Station under the file number CRB 178/2023.
Maate said that inquiries are ongoing as efforts are made to get the suspect arrested. ‘’We have commenced inquiries, and efforts to get the suspect arrested are being made,’’ he said.
