TWO FEARED DEAD IN BOAT ACCIDENT ON LAKE ALBERT

HOIMA: Two people are feared to have died on Lake Albert after their boat capsized, the incident happened on Tuesday night at Kibiro landing site in Kigorobya County Hoima district.
Godfrey Abigaba the chairperson Kibiro landing has identified the deceased as Godfrey Kandole and one Richard both attached to Kibiro landing site. Abigaba told UG Reports that cause of incident is suspected to have been strong waves on the lake.
“Two died on spot and other two were rescued by the residents after their boat capsized due to strong wind”. Abigaba said.
The area chairperson adds that residents and the Uganda People’s Defense Forces have commenced the search of the dead bodies, and by Tuesday they had not recovered any due to the continued strong winds.
“We are already at the site trying to search for the dead bodies, but nothing has been recovered yet because we are still challenged by the strong winds on Lake Albert waters”. Abigaba adds.
In 2020, at least 26 people died when their boat sank on Lake Albert when ferrying them to Democratic Republic of Congo. The boat was ferrying over 50 people , 26 bodies were recovered, 21 people were rescued, and 33 died on spot.
Last year, 12 people were rescued after their boat capsized on Lake Albert as they were sailing from Kyehoro landing site in Kikuuba district to Panyimur fish market in Pakwach district. The boat was carrying over 328 bags of silverfish and other items.
