BULIISA: The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) Buliisa Branch has lost one of its service providers, who knocked a cow and died.

A 30-year-old Mugume Joshua, a resident of Buliisa who has been working as a wireman, met a fateful night on Wednesday at around 9 p.m. along the Buliisa–Wanseko road.

Ms. Kyomugisa Sharon, an administrator at the UEDCL Buliisa branch, told this publication that the deceased knocked over a cow that was in the middle of the road near Kakindo Miracle Center Church in Buliisa Town Council, Buliisa District.

She said that the late man was rushed to Buliisa district general hospital and was pronounced dead before being evacuated to Hoima regional referral hospital for specialized treatment.

‘’He died at around 11 p.m while being evacuated to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for specialized treatment,’’ Ms. Kyomugisa said.

A close source at the Buliisa district general hospital told this website that they register accident victims on a daily basis, attributing it to the tarmac roads in the area.

The Buliisa Sub County LC3 Chairperson, Mr. Kamanda Kabagambe, expressed concern over continued pastoralists’ failure to control their cattle, adding that this has caused many accidents in the district that have resulted in the loss of lives.

The Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, Julius Allan Hakiza warned pastoralists in Buliisa district to be vigilant and avoid their cattle from roaming in the roads.

‘’The roads are designed for vehicles and motorists, not cattle; pastoralists should be vigilant. In case their cattle cause an accident, the owner is supposed to compensate the victim or the family of the deceased,’’ he said.

Hakiza also advised drivers and motorists to drive or ride carefully and follow road signs to avoid accidents.

Last month, Mr. Mugati Andrew, a journalist attached to Nation Media Group, also knocked over a cow along the same road, which later claimed his life.
