BUKEDEA: The United Kingdom agency identified as Tools With A Mission (TWAM) has donated hand skill training tools to the vulnerable youth in Kolir Sub County in Bukedea district.
The donation was delivered on July 5, 2023, by the United Kingdom delegation headed by Mr. David Richard Smart.
According to Mr. Smart, most western countries aid Ugandans with money and food, but the rate of poverty is still high.
Mr. Smart said the United Kingdom started to collect some of the used hand-skilling tools whose conditions are much better in order to support Ugandans, mostly the vulnerable youth.
“These tools are much better, and as a country, we looked at how giving food aid and money to the youth wouldn’t help, but with hand-skilling tools, youth can make their own money,” Mr. Smart said.
Among the donated hand-skilling tools are tailoring machines, mechanic kits, carpentry kits, and welding kits, among others.
Mr. Kokas Oculi, the Kolir LC3 chairperson, said Kolir is one of the subcounties affected by a high number of school dropouts.
“These hand skill training tools will now help us start a hand skill training school in our community”, said Mr. Oculi.
Mr. John Robert Kiria, the program coordinator, says the training tools received will cost about 30 million shillings.
However, the majority of the beneficiaries applauded the aid.
