UPDF COMMENDED FOR ENSURING PEACE IN THE COUNTRY

FORT PORTAL: The Fort Portal Resident City Commissioner Godwin Angalia has commended the Uganda People’s Defence Forces {UPDF} for the efforts in ensuring peace and stability in the country.

The commendation was made today during the office handover by the outgoing Mountain Division commander Lt Gen Kanyaja Muhanga to the incoming division commander Maj Gen Dick Olum.

Angalia said that the Uganda People’s Defence Forces have maintained peace and stability in the country. ”The army has done great job in ensuring peace and stability in the country,” he commended.

He also commended the Congolese Government for the cooperation with the Ugandan Government  in pursueing of the ADF terrorists.

”The Congolese Government has cooperated with the Ugandan Government  in pursueing of the ADF terrorists in the Eastern DRC,” he said.

In December last, UPDF soldiers were deployed in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo to pursue the ADF rebels.

Uganda’s intervention has come despite a crackdown on the ADF by the Congolese armed forces, launched two years ago.

That has been followed by a “state of siege” in North Kivu and Ituri since last year under which senior civilian officials have been replaced by military or police.
