UPDF OFFICER FOUND DEAD IN QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

RUKUNGIRI: Police in Rukungiri district are investigating circumstances under which a Uganda People’s Defence Forces – UPDF officer was allegedly killed by wild animals in Queen Elizabeth National park.

The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate identified the deceased as Pt. Ndyanabo Patrick, 32, number RA 222890, who has been attached to Ncwera barracks in Queen Elizabeth National park in Rwenshama Parish Bwambara Sub county Rukungiri district.

According to Maate, the deceased left the barracks on 25th February 2023 and went to Rwenshama land site for unknown reasons, on his way back to the barracks on foot at around 04:00am on 26th February 2023 in Queen Elizabeth National Park it’s believed that he met wild animals which claimed his life.

The regional police mouthpiece asserted that at around 07:00am on 26th February 2023, a boda boda rider from Rwenshama passed by Ncwera barracks and informed the administration that he had seen an unidentified dead body lying alongside the road in the park.

Maate narrated that the intelligence officer sent a team of UPDF officers to the scene who identified the deceased as their fellow colleague.

‘’Police was informed, scene visited, examined and documented by the district CID Rukungiri, CI, Soco UWA, UPDF Officers, postmortem done at Scene , body handed over to the UPDF officers for further arrangements,’’ he said.

The regional police spokesperson notes that a case of the sudden death was registered at Rukungiri District under reference number DEF 001/2023.
