UPDF RECOVERS BODY OF THEIR COLLEAGUE WHO DIED IN MBALE DISASTER

MBALE: The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces {UPDF} have this morning {Sunday} recovered the body of their colleague who perished in the Mbale floods.

The third Division Spokesman Maj. Isaac Oware said the body was found at around 9:30am at Malukudown flooded swamp.

‘’The deceased has been identified as Private Sam Chemulindwa, 26, who was serving in the 53 infantry battalion, 407 Brigade under the Third Division,’’ he said.

He commended the vigilance and cooperation exhibited by the joint security forces and the civilians throughout the search and recovery efforts.

According to Maj. Oware the lifeless body of Chemulindwa is being managed at Bugema army barracks as they wait for the burial arrangements.

The deceased was caught on the road by floods from a burst river while moving from Bugema to the main army barracks during a heavy downpour.

Four other bodies of civilians have also been recovered since day break following the floods that has reduced parts of Mbale City to shambles.

The heavy downpour which started last night has affected the areas of Nabuyo suburb, Busamaga, Kampala road, Namatala, Namakwekwe, Namabasa, Bugema, Bukasakya and Nabuyonga ward, Northern City Division, industrial park, and the neighbouring areas.
