WE SHOULD FIGHT MATERNAL DEATH – HON. ASINASI

By Our Reporter

HOIMA: Hon. Asinasi Nyakato, the Woman Member of Parliament for Hoima City says there is a need to fight maternal death in the country.

In her women’s day message, Asinasi said that mothers are losing their dear lives while giving life which needs to be urgently addressed.

Asinasi further said there is need to address the challenge of the single mothers who are taking care of children whose fathers have abandoned, the old women in villages who have no pension, many who long ago lost their husbands to mention but a few.

The politician noted that the reality is that we should contend with the gap between the emancipated women and the ordinary ones which is huge, and need to work to fix it.

”I call upon all of us, the women political leaders, the educated women, the women working in executive positions, the judiciary, those working in business or civil society and other stakeholders to work towards lifting fellow women to a higher level,” she said.

Asinasi further noted there is need to empower, inspire, encourage and support fellow women, and young girls to work towards full emancipation for all the women in Uganda.

”There is a need to empower, inspire, encourage and support fellow women, and young girls to work towards full emancipation for all the women in Uganda,” she asserted.

The politician also noted that women are suffering domestic violence in silence, girls are facing sexual violence, and dropping out of school because of lack of sanitary pads, and some are being told to absent themselves to take care of home chores among others which she says shouldn’t be forgotten to work upon.

”However as we celebrate womens day, whatever we have achieved, especially us who have attained a university degree, elected into a political office, got jobs and others, we ought not to forget our fellow women who are downtrodden,” she noted.
