ARUA: West Nile Rural Electrification Company (Wenreco) has launched a partnership with Airtel Uganda to enable the community to purchase power using Airtel money.

The launch that took place at Wenreco offices in Arua town on Tuesday was graced by both Arua city and Arua district leaders.

Kenneth Chigumba, the managing director Wenreco said that the partnership has been aimed at helping the customers from moving long distances looking for power units.

He further said the partnership will help the community members to easily access power units across the region.

Japhet Aritho the managing director Airtel Uganda said as Airtel they believe in new innovations to the Ugandans and the country is heading to the digital world which the community should embrace.

He said people in other regions have already benefited from the partnership with UMEME whereby people have benefited in terms of conformability and accessibility of the power units at any given time.


The LC5 chairman Arua district Alfred Okuonzi praised Wenreco for the services they are offering in the region.

He said the government is cherishing social economic transformation where the two partners are implementing the strategy of the government.

Meanwhile Wadri Sam Nyakua the mayor Arua city called on the government to increase power supply amidst struggles of Wenreco by connecting the west nile to the national grid.

The partnership between Wenreco and Airtel will benefit power consumers who have Airtel lines.

The power consumers will be able to dial *185*4*6# to access the power units.
