By Chris Frank

KIBAALE: Police in Kayanja Sub County, Kibaale district have arrested Moses Baguma, the Chairperson of Kyenkonge youth produce buyers group, over allegations of swindling 7.5million shillings disbursed to the group under the Youth Livelihood Programme {YLP} in 2018.

Baguma, a resident of Bukanga village in Kayanja Sub County was nabbed Monday morning by the Kyebando Police and is currently detained at Kyebando Police post.

On interrogation at Kyebando police, Baguma confessed that they received the money as a group consisting of 10 members purposely to buy agricultural produce mainly maize.

He claims that when they started the activity of stocking maize, the prices of maize reduced and had a loss that resulted in the collapse of the business and decline of the group.

Buguma however changed the statement saying that he swindled the money with other 2 members namely John Kairu and Robert Tumuhaise stressing that he only took 3 million and the remaining balance is with other members.

Joseph Matovu, the District Community Development Officer Kibaale says youth groups in the district have remained adamant about recovery of the YLP funds noting that they have started an operation to crackdown all the defaulters more especially those that took the money and diverted it to their own individual interests.
